RAP Support Network
A Support Community for Aboriginal People Involved in RAPs
At Yarning Crescent, we’ve heard the same story over and over: too often, organisations select any Aboriginal staff member to sit on a RAP committee without proper training, cultural support, or recognition of the responsibility they are taking on.
Many of our mob feel they “have to do it”, and are left isolated, unsupported, and tokenised, while still being expected to guide their organisation’s reconciliation journey.
We believe this must change.
That’s why Tony Moran, our National Director of First Nations Strategy & Training, is leading this new initiative—a dedicated RAP Support Community designed to empower Aboriginal people who are involved in RAP committees across different organisations.
Monthly RAP Community Meetups – Sydney
Beginning next year, Yarning Crescent will host monthly meetups in Sydney to create a safe and culturally grounded space where mob can:
- Connect & Share – Meet other Aboriginal people navigating RAP responsibilities.
- Call Out Tokenism – Yarn openly about the challenges of being placed in RAP committees without support.
- Build Capacity – Access guidance, tools, and peer mentoring to strengthen your role.
- Stay True to Culture – Ensure RAP commitments align not only with Reconciliation Australia’s framework but also with the voices of our people and communities.
Each session will be led by Tony Moran and feature peer-led yarning circles, cultural sharing, and guest speakers to uplift and empower everyone present.
Why This Matters
- For Mob: A supportive network to lean on, grow skills, and share strategies.
- For Communities: Stronger voices ensuring RAPs reflect genuine commitments, not tokenistic gestures.
- For Organisations: A reminder that RAPs should be grounded in respect, accountability, and cultural safety.
Who Should Join?
This community is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who:
- Have been asked to sit on a RAP committee in their workplace.
- Are leading or supporting RAP work without much guidance.
- Feel like the “go-to” Aboriginal person in their organisation.
- Want to connect with others walking the same journey.
Be Part of the Network
We are here to support mob who support RAPs. Together, we can build a stronger, united voice for genuine reconciliation—one that reflects our people, our communities, and our culture.
About the Initiative
Yarning Crescent’s RAP Support Community, led by Tony Moran (National Director – First Nations Strategy & Training), creates a safe space for mob who are asked to sit on RAP committees. Too often, Aboriginal staff are placed in these roles without training or support, leaving them isolated and tokenised. Our monthly Sydney meetups bring mob together to share, learn, and build a strong network to ensure RAPs reflect the voices of our people, our communities, and our culture.
Beyond the Meetups – Opportunities for Our Community
